Since the late ‘80s, Barbara Blackstone has been creating spaces for those in conflict to negotiate their differences. From community mediator to mediation program developer and administrator to college faculty instructor, Barbara has honed her skills and is sought after by individuals, groups, and organizations to help when the distances seem impossible to bridge.

Creating safe spaces for adversaries to voice their own and to hear their opponents’ perspectives is an important first step. Discovering options for alternative outcomes helps all participants see their differences in a new light and allows them to move toward mutually agreed-upon actions.

Barbara’s current focus is on Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and small claims mediations. She is also doing research and consulting on problems associated with gender, class, race, sexuality, and aging.
